In a world once ruled by dragons, the discovery of the First Flame allows Gwyn and his allies to initiate the Age of Fire, which fades over time, leading to a curse that revives humans upon death. The player, one of these cursed undead, is drawn into a conflict involving the spread of darkness by Manus in Oolacile, ultimately facing choices that could prolong the Age of Fire or usher in an Age of Dark. After defeating Manus and resolving the situation in Oolacile, the player's actions determine the world's fate.
